Katie was born and raised in Decatur, Alabama. She attended college at Auburn University where she met her husband, Shawn. After marriage, the couple relocated to the Atlanta area where Katie was accepted into Emory University’s Physician Assistant Program. She graduated from Emory with highest honors and was offered her first job at Georgia Cancer Specialists. At that point, her love for cancer patients and her desire to make the burden of cancer easier became central to her personal practice as a PA. In 2007, Katie relocated to Ventura County, California and she accepted a position at Ventura County Hematology Oncology Specialists where she continues to work part-time. When she is not working, she is at home with her three children, Aspen, Slater, and Titus.
Katie’s spiritual journey has been molded and shaped by her family, her husband, and several mentors. Truly the Christian journey is one of personal growth and sanctification. After settling in California, Katie and her husband were led to Faith Community Church in Oxnard, CA which is a member of the F.I.R.E. (Fellowship of Independent Reformed Evangelicals) conference. She is active in the church and enjoys coordinating events for women.
Katie’s desire to write, Finding Christ in Cancer, began shortly after Aspen was born. With the additional time at home, Katie was able to spend more time in the Word and had an eagerness to better understand suffering and trials. Her goal is to develop a full-time ministry for cancer patients by being available to serve them in both a medical capacity and to provide spiritual encouragement.
